Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj: The Fifth Original Jagadguru

Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj (1922-2013) became the fifth original Jagadguru of the world after Adi Jagadguru Shri Shankaracharya, the propounder of Advaita (monism or non-dualism), Jagadguru Shri Ramanujacharya, the propounder of Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-dualism), Jagadguru Shri Nimbarkacharya, the propounder of Dvaitadvaita (dualistic non-dualism) and Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya, the propounder of Dvaita (dualism).

In the year 1957, India's elite body of five hundred topmost scholars, Kashi Vidvat Parishat, conferred the title of original Jagadguru on Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, and also honoured him with the title of Jagadguruttam, "Supreme Amongst all Jagadgurus". Deeply impressed by his charming personality, so immersed in the loving sentiments of bhakti, they also proclaimed that he was Bhaktiyoga-rasavatara, "Descension of Divine Love and Bliss". The unfathomable ocean of knowledge revealed by him is known today as Kripalu Bhaktiyoga Tattva-darshan. The legacy of his divine literature - Prem Ras Siddhant, Prem Ras Madira, Radha Govind Geet, Bhakti Shatak, and so on, along with his innumerable lectures, substantiated with evidence from the Vedas and Shastras, in addition to his bliss-filled sankirtans (devotional songs) go a long way in contributing to the welfare of the entire world. Apart from this, he also dedicated three beautiful temples to the world: Bhakti Mandir, Prem Mandir and Kirti Mandir.

Today, there are innumerable religions in the world. Giving due respect to all of them, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj reconciles the seemingly apparent contradictions existing in their different philosophies, thereby revealing the very simple path of bhaktiyoga which can be followed by people of all religions, all castes, and all disciplic successions.
